Tradition, innovation and passion for Icelandic horse sport

HGG Reitsport is more than just a brand – it's synonymous with quality, passion, and a deep-rooted connection to Icelandic horse sport. Founded by Hans Georg Gundlach, one of the most well-known names in the sport, HGG Reitsport has established itself over the decades as a major player in the equestrian clothing sector, standing for products that are not only functional but also developed in harmony with nature and the needs of the rider.

The history of HGG Reitsport: A success story

The journey of HGG Reitsport began in the 1980s when Hans Georg Gundlach founded the brand. With a clear goal in mind—to provide the Icelandic horse riding community with high-quality, functional clothing—he began developing the first products that met the specific requirements of Icelandic horse sport. Even back then, Gundlach placed great emphasis on material quality, fit, and durability—characteristics that still form the foundation of HGG products today.

HGG Reitsport became particularly well-known for its legendary riding overalls, which provide reliable protection even in extreme weather conditions. This overall quickly became a popular classic among riders and remains a staple in the product line to this day. The success of this product is no surprise, as Gundlach, himself an experienced rider and multiple European champion, knew the needs of riders firsthand and understood the importance of functional yet comfortable equipment.

In 2013, after almost 30 years of successful brand management, Hans Georg Gundlach handed over responsibility for HGG Reitsport to the Liebermann sports retailer in Dörfles-Esbach, to lead the company into the next generation. Although he retired from active business, Gundlach remained loyal to the brand and continued to support the team with his knowledge and experience. The riding overall, the brand's most well-known product, remained an important part of the HGG Reitsport product range even under the new management.

The development of HGG Reitsport

HGG Reitsport has continuously evolved over the years. The brand was known not only for its functional riding apparel, but also for the innovative solutions it offered riders. In close collaboration with experts and passionate riders, new products were constantly being developed that met the high demands of Icelandic horse riders. The goal was never just to offer high-quality products, but also to enhance the riding experience – weather-independent, comfortable, and safe.

Particularly noteworthy is the close connection to Icelandic horses and their riders. HGG Reitsport is not just a brand, but also a part of the Icelandic horse community, with a long-standing and trusting collaboration with riders, trainers, and instructors. This close connection to the community continues to shape the brand today.

Hans Georg Gundlach: A life's work for Icelandic horse sport

Hans Georg Gundlach remains a significant figure even after his official retirement from active equestrian sport. As a two-time European Champion and Vice-European Champion, as well as a multiple participant in European and World Championships, Gundlach set standards for Icelandic horse sport and rider training. As an instructor, he was also instrumental in establishing the early structures of the IPZV.

For his achievements, Gundlach was awarded the IPZV's Gold Badge of Honor in 2011, and in 2017, after his retirement from active membership, he was honored with the Gold Badge of Honor with Diamonds for his lifetime achievements. These awards are recognition not only for his sporting achievements, but also for his tireless commitment to promoting Icelandic horse sport and the Icelandic horse community.

HGG Equestrian today and in the future

Today, under the leadership of Adrian Liebermann, HGG Reitsport stands for the same passion and quality that have always characterized the brand. The product range has been further expanded, and the products are now more tailored than ever to the specific needs of riders – whether for competition, training, or recreational use. The HGG brand remains firmly anchored in Icelandic horse sport and offers riders everything they need for their sport.

The future of HGG Reitsport is as bright as its past. The brand remains true to its heritage by combining the highest quality products with innovative technologies and continuing to passionately support Icelandic horse sport.
